Wednesday July 11, 2012
University of Limerick Conference and Sports Campus is delighted with the announcement of Limerick as the National City of Culture in 2014. The conference and events team will support the delivery of a programme of exciting cultural events for the year. As home to the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University Concert Hall and the National Self Portrait Gallery the University of Limerick can add to the wide range of cultural gems to be found in the City.
From the Kate O'Brien Literary Weekend to the largest International Tag Rugby Festival in Pig n' Porter locals and visitors will have the chance to enjoy unique cultural experiences throughout the city. Whether you want to catch a show at the University Concert Hall or take a stroll around the newly extended Limerick City Gallery the National City of Culture Initiative will provide a platform for highlighting all that there is to do and see in Limerick. Other cultural charms of the city include the Island Theatre Company, DAGHDHA Dance Company, many festivals, galleries, theatres, museums and libraries.
The National City of Culture Initiative will bring artists, arts organisations, local authorities and civic groups together through the design of a calendar of events that showcases all that the city has to offer in arts and cultural expression.
This initiative will highlight the distinctive culture in Limerick and we look forward to being involved in developing a programme of exciting events throughout the year.
