Monday August 04, 2014
Three American teams made their way to UL for this year's Limerick Cup 2014 which took place from Thursday 31st July, until Saturday 2nd August.
This international soccer tournament played host to American underage teams who competed agaisnt Irish teams on UL's North Campus pitches.
Ramapo Valley Torandoes (New York), Lynn Breakers (Massachusetts) and Motco Select (Philadelphia) took on Limerick County (u-16's and u-14's), Limerick Desmond (u-14's) and Dublin Metropolitan (u-17's and u-14s).
Dublin Metropolitan were favourites to win with strong line outs for both teams having won the u-16 Gaynor Cup earlier in the year, and narrowly missing out on the u-14 Gaynor Cup by newly crowned champions Galway.
The favourites came away with the title, and were presented with the newly designed Treaty Stone Trophy.
What was last year's "Emerald Cup" has now been christened "The Limerick Cup" going forward, and is expected to be a tournament that will grow in the next few years and will open up to underage boys teams also.
The American and Dublin teams stayed on campus with us for the duration of the tournament.
